Summer 2 Week 5 8.7.22

Hello!

This week the children have been reviewing lots of previous learning in maths, such as composition of numbers (how they are made up), doubles, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and finding numbers within numbers. They have used the Cuisenaire rods to make totals and find patterns. You might like to use this link to explore making numbers with the rods: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/rods

The children also enjoyed building bridges from blocks and measuring these using smaller objects such as paper clips, multilink and lego. The children were very careful to position the objects from end to end and count carefully to see how long their bridges were. You might like to have a go at some non-standard measurement at home using some objects of the same size. You could measure your dining room table, your bed, your living room rug… the possibilities are endless!

Next week in maths we will be reviewing maps and using positional language. We will also be creating patterns and doing some problem solving.

In Talk 4 Writing we have been writing instructions to make a jam sandwich. The children have written the equipment and ingredients and the numbered steps. We have also thought about different sorts of sandwiches we could make and different types of instructions we might see. Perhaps you have some instructions at home: a recipe or maybe game instructions.

And we ended the week with our fabulous Sports Day. The children were all brilliant! They cheered each other on and tried their very best. We are very proud of them. Thank you so much for coming along to support. Have a look at the website for some pictures.

Just a reminder to apply suncream before school and make sure your child has their sunhat and water each day. Also, on PE days, if your child has long hair please can you ensure your child’s hair is tied up.

Thank you again for your continued support. Please feel free to continue to send any photos or videos of your child’s activities at home, as they really help to build a full picture of your child’s progress or experiences.

Have a lovely weekend.
