Summer 1 Week 3 5.5.23

Hello!

This week the children have enjoyed becoming authors! They have used their phonic knowledge to write the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children are very confident at verbally retelling the story which has supported sentence writing.

In maths, we have been talking about the properties of shapes using the language corners, sides, straight and curved. We have been rotating shapes, matching shapes and finding the odd one out using our reasoning skills. The children have been using positional language to make arrangements of cubes, such as above, below, to the side, on top, underneath. You might like to play a game at home challenging your child to move according to your instructions: sit under the chair, jump next to the sofa, dance on the mat, wave your arms above your head…

Next week in maths we will be learning how to count on from a number and we will be practising different strategies for adding on, using a range of equipment. We will be exploring how many more have been added. We will be reviewing our learning of teen numbers, comparing and ordering and making teen numbers in different ways.

In history, we will be learning about toys from the past and comparing them with toys that the children have in school and at home. We will discuss the use of the toy and what they are made from. The children will have the opportunity to talk about their favourite toy with their class.

As the weather gets warmer please make sure your child has a sun hat and sun cream applied before school. Sun cream that you apply once which lasts for 8 hours is ideal as then children don’t have to reapply throughout the day. If your child does need to bring sun cream into school, we will guide them to apply this independently.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
