Summer 1 Week 2 26.4.24

This week the children have been working really hard in their phonics groups. Thank you for your continued support in reading with your child and practising sounds and words with them.

In maths, we have been exploring teen numbers and embedding the concept of one full ten and extra ones. We have recognised representations of teen numbers in ten frames, with numicon and with blocks and we have been making teen numbers with these resources. As you are out and about you might like to play ‘teen number hunt’ and find numbers that have 1 ten and extra ones (11-19). You might see these numbers on front doors, buses, in shops, in your house, on signs, on car registration plates. You could take photos of each teen number you see or keep a tally. Maybe create a bingo board and see if you can mark off all the teen numbers.

We have been reading the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is our focus text for our Talk 4 Writing unit We have been reading and discussing the story and making up actions to help us to retell the story. We will continue with this story next week. The children will be creating their own story maps to help retell the story and then using their phonic knowledge to write the story. We will also innovate the story, thinking of new elements to make it our own new story.

In maths next week we will be focusing on adding.

As the weather starts to get warmer, please ensure that your child has a sun hat and sun cream applied when it is sunny. Please also make sure your child has a raincoat and wellies in school as this allows us to be out whatever the weather!

Have a lovely weekend!
