Summer 1 Week 6 28.5.21

Hello!

This week we continued learning about toys, comparing old and new toys, sorting toys and ordering toys chronologically. The children have also been enjoying making their vehicles with moving wheels. They have made their designs and some of the children have been through the process of cutting the axel, attaching the tech card, inserting the axel into the tech card and attaching wheels. They have also begun to paint and add features to their vehicles. This is an ongoing project which will feed into next half-term but you will be pleased to know that a new toy vehicle will soon be making its way home! Thank you for all the box donations this week.

In maths we have been practising the skills of spatial reasoning. We have been positioning shapes to make new shapes and have been rotating shapes to copy and create patterns. We also revisited addition and subtraction using a range of methods and resources.

Next half-term, we will start our Minibeasts topic, which I’m sure will be a big hit! If you have any Minibeasts books or equipment at home you may like to start investigating this week so that you have lots to tell us when you come back to school. You might like to go looking for minibeasts in the garden or at the local park. Under rocks is a great place to start!

In maths next half-term, we will be exploring doubling. Some books about doubling that you might like to look at, whether you have them at home or can find a youtube reading of them, are:
This is the story of Alison Hubble – Allan Ahlberg
Two of Everything – Lily Hong
Double Dave – Sue Hendra
Double the Ducks – Stuart J Murphy
Numberblocks Series 2 Episode 9 is also about doubling: Double Trouble

Thank you again for your continued support. Please feel free to continue to send any photos or videos of your child’s activities at home, as they really help to build a full picture of your child’s progress or experiences.

We hope you have a really lovely break; let’s hope the weather stays nice for us!
See you next half-term for the final part of your child’s reception journey.
