Summer 2 Week 1

7.6.24

Hello!

We can’t believe this is the final half-term in reception for your children. They have been so wonderful and have made such fabulous progress. We have lots of lovely things to enjoy this half-term before we break up for summer including Sports Day, a sports gala and Fun Day.

This week we started our topic about mini-beasts. The children have absolutely loved learning about all different kinds of bugs. They have been investigating what an insect is and different parts of its body. In fact, you may like to sing this song at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxH7NBbL9JY which the children have loved singing. They might like to show you their groovy bug dancing too! We have been classifying mini-beasts and have been comparing them too. Throughout the week, the children have been finding lots of bugs in the reception garden and we even went bug hunting in the school garden. You might like to go for a hunt in your garden or local park. Look under rocks, on plants, on bark, in the soil and in the air to see which mini-beasts you can find. Can your child name the different parts of the bugs that they find? We have been using the language: head, thorax, abdomen, antennae, legs, wings, sting, shell.

In maths we have been learning about the properties of shape, positional language and rotation. The children really enjoyed identifying shapes in different positions and making picture using the shapes. They also looking at picture which included shapes which allowed them to use their positional language.

Next week we will be continuing our mini-beasts topic and the children will be doing craft activities and learning about how useful some mini-beasts can be. They will be finding out about mini-beasts around the world, some of which are huge!

In maths next week we will be consolidating our learning on number combinations to ten and identifying and making patterns.

Just a reminder that is the weather is sunny please make sure you have applied sun cream to your child before school and that they have a sun hat and water.

Thank you again for your continued support. Please feel free to continue to send any photos or videos of your child’s activities at home, as they really help to build a full picture of your child’s progress or experiences.

Have a lovely weekend.
