This week we were very lucky to have some visitors to help us learn more about our new topic, ‘What African wonders await?’. The children took part in both a drumming and a dance workshop, as well as learning more about the culture and geography of different African nations.
During the drumming workshop, the children were asked to listen to and follow patterns using their drums. They used phrases such as ‘chocolate cake’ and ‘give a dog a bone’ to emphasise the different rhythms.
In the dance workshop, the children learned movements from traditional African dances and performed sequences of movements along to the music. Look out for some of these moves in our class assembly at the end of the half-term!
The children (and adults) all had a great time and it was a wonderful way to launch our new topic.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
