Deforestation debate
In preparation for our Endangered Animal Day, year 5 began learning about the impact of deforestation on the Amazon rainforest and rainforests across the world. We shared some shocking facts about the rate of deforestation and how quickly areas have disappeared. Following this, we sorted arguments for and against deforestation and began to think about why different groups might think the way they do. We then turned this into a debate with 8 groups (cattle farmers, pharmastics, loggers, fast food restaurant owners, conservationists, government officials, inhabitants and environmental scientists) and tried to convince each other that we were right! Great work, year 5!
