Spring 1 Week 7 18.2.22

Hello!

Thank you for attending parents’ evening this week. It was great to be able to discuss the progress your children have made over the last few months. We are very proud of their achievements. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email or Tapestry. And please continue to send in any pictures or videos through Tapestry which you think would be useful to add to your child’s learning journey.

This week we have been continuing our ‘Talk 4 Writing’ topic. The children have been creating story maps to help them retell the story of The Three Little Pigs. They have also been writing parts of the story using key words and their phonic knowledge. They have been enjoying retelling the story using characters in the small world area, making houses for the pigs in the construction area and painting some beautiful pictures based on the story.

In maths the children have been reviewing previous learning. We have looked a various ways to make the numbers 6, 7 and 8. If you have dominoes at home, you could find all the dominoes that make up a certain number. How many different combinations can you find?

You might like to have a go at using some of the manipulatives on this website:

https://mathsbot.com/manipulativeMenu

To explore combinations of numbers, the following manipluatives are particularly useful: dominoes, number frames, rekenrek, ten frame.

After half-term, we will be learning about the life cycles of different animals. In maths, we will be looking at the numbers 9 and 10.

We hope you have a lovely break with your children, ready for the second half of their journey through their first school year.
