Summer 1 Week 3 3.5.24

Hello!

This week the children have enjoyed becoming authors! They have used their phonic knowledge to write the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children are very confident at verbally retelling the story which has supported sentence writing.

The children are very excited to share their learning with you in our reception assembly on Wednesday 8th May at 9.15am.

In maths, we have been learning how to count on from an amount and how to use the first, now, then process to add on an amount to find the total. They have been practising finding the missing number too, figuring out how many have been added. Maybe you could play a game with teddies at home. For instance, put 3 teddies on the rug then ask your child to close their eyes and add some more (to make 6 altogether). When they open their eyes, can they tell you how many have been added? They can use counting on to figure this out. We start from 3  because that’s how many we had first – ‘4, 5, 6’ – point to the teddies as you count. 3 more were added! Do this with any amount up to 10. Next week in maths we will be learning how to subtract.

In history, we will be learning about toys from the past and comparing them with toys that the children have in school and at home. We will discuss the use of the toy and what they are made from. The children will have the opportunity to talk about their favourite toy with their class.

As the weather gets warmer please make sure your child has a sun hat and sun cream applied before school. Sun cream that you apply once which lasts for 8 hours is ideal as then children don’t have to reapply throughout the day. If your child does need to bring sun cream into school, we will guide them to apply this independently.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
