Wow, what a brilliant first week back after the summer holidays! The children have all settled in exceptionally well and have all got stuck straight in to Year 5! We are super proud of all their hard work this week.
In maths, we have been recapping Roman numerals up to 1,000 as well as understanding the place value of 5 digit numbers. We have also been recapping our times tables and doing lots of 'Times Tables Rockstars' to increase our speed and fluency.
This week, we have launched our brand new text; 'The Iron Man'. On Thursday, we read the first chapter and made sensible predications on what we thought the book was going to be about. The children are excited to find out more about why Iron Man was found on a beach! In writing, the children are in the process of writing a setting description based on the planet 'Pandora'. Over the next few weeks, they will focus on using a range of powerful adjectives, similes and expanded noun phrases to describe the planet in detail. They are really excited to get their teeth stuck into this!
As part of a team building exercise, the children had to work collaboratively to build a space suit for Tim Peake. To do this, they had a range of different equipment and twenty minutes on the timer! We were incredibly impressed with how well the children communicated and worked together.
