Writing 01.12.2023

Over the past two weeks, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on their final drafts of their latest writing project. Our writing is based on a scene in our class novel, Once, where our main character witnesses a Nazi soldier burning Jewish books. The children used this as inspiration for a character description, thinking carefully about how our description of both the Nazi and the setting can help to portray a character's personality. We began by exploring the type of vocabulary we could use and then extended this by using metaphors, similes and personification. We then used these phrases to build powerful sentences which in turn helped us to structure our paragraphs. The children were rightly very proud of the outcome and because of this, we decided to write them up onto tea stained paper and then burn the edges to make it seem as though they were pages from the very books that were burnt in the story. Please check back soon to see the final result (once Miss Brayshay has had a lot of fun burning the edges of the pages..!)
