Spr 1 Week 1

Spring 1 - Week 1

Year 1 have had a very busy first week back after the Christmas break and have settled straight back into learning with lots of enthusiasm.

The children launched into their new learning challenge, “Who were history’s greatest explorers?”, and began by learning all about Ibn Battuta and his incredible pilgrimage to Mecca. They were fascinated by his journeys and enjoyed discovering how explorers from the past travelled the world.

As part of their topic work, Year 1 took part in an exciting Commando Joe’s activity. The children were immersed in the role of explorers, searching for treasure and gems hidden amongst imaginary sand dunes. Working together as a team, they discussed and tested different strategies to explore efficiently and successfully. It was wonderful to see such great teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills on display.

In computing, the children developed their digital skills by practising how to log onto a Chromebook independently, showing great resilience and focus.

Class 1W also enjoyed some outdoor learning, embracing the winter weather by getting creative and making beautiful ice sculptures. The children loved exploring the outdoors and using their imagination in the chilly conditions.

Well done to all of Year 1 for such a fantastic start to the new term — we are looking forward to another exciting half term of learning! 🌟
