Autumn 1 Week 3

The children are really getting into the swing of things here in Year 1. This week the children have been doing their morning maths jobs as they arrive at school and also having a go at writing capital and lowercase letters looking carefully to make sure they are forming them correctly.

In maths we have been working on counting backwards and using this skill to spot patterns and solve missing number problems and we have also been recapping our understanding of 1 less. The children have been working hard on their number formation trying to make sure we are forming our numbers the correct way around.

In history we have been comparing modern and old household appliances such as TVs, irons and washing machines. The children had some great ideas about what they though each item could be and compared them looking for similarities and differences.

The children are really enjoying their gymnastic lessons and this week they have focused on rolling as well as some ribbon skills.

Our challenges this week have encouraged the children to write in full sentences remembering the key skills of using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. These are skills that need to become second nature as they will allow us to read their work much more easily.

The children have also been trying their hand at water colour painting this week looking at colours matching when painting fruit.

We hope you enjoy looking at the photos to see what the children have been up to.
