Throughout Year 6 writing, we discuss how our language choices affect how our reader feels and how they see the images we create with our words. For our new writing unit on setting descriptions, we spent time exploring the idea of an orphanage dining hall - something the main character of our class text 'Once' knows well! We used inspiration from Once, from our Year 5/6 production of Oliver and our own school dining hall to gather adjectives that would create a specific image for our audience. We then used these adjectives to form expanded noun phrases which we can later use in our main block of writing.
