Hello!
This week we have been continuing with our Talk 4 Writing unit based on the story Jasper’s Beanstalk. We have created story maps and the children have been writing parts of the story using their phonic knowledge. We innovated the story to make it our own by changing elements such as the character, items and actions.
Next week we will be learning about how we change as we grow in our topic ‘How have we changed?’ You will have received an app message about sending in a baby photo either electronically or a hard copy. Thank you in advance for your support with this; the children really enjoy seeing each other as babies and it helps us to be able to compare being a baby to being a child. We will be using the vocabulary before, now, next, timeline, baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult. You might like to look at some old photos this weekend of different family members at different stages of their lives.
In maths we have been learning how to create patterns and have been using craft materials to do this. We have worked specifically on ABB patterns. We have also been investigating the numbers within 7. We have looked at how a whole is made up of smaller parts through games and practical experiences, such as investigating the number of ducks on a pond. At home you can play games with numbers to 7, hiding some objects and seeing if your child can use their number knowledge to tell you how many are missing. Or if you have coloured blocks, can your child show you different ways to make numbers eg 3 red and 4 blue make 7 altogether.
Here is an episode of Numberblocks all about the number 7 which you might like to share at home: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgqt4/numberblocks-series-2-seven
Next week in maths, we will be investigating composition of numbers to 10, using doubles to understand about this composition.
Thank you for your continued support in reading with your child, practising handwriting and playing number games at home as well as Numbots. Please continue to send in any experiences out of school through Tapestry. It is a lovely way for the children to share their extra-curricular experiences and achievements.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
