Autumn 1 Week 2
This week in Year 1 we have been continuing to learn about what life was like when our grandparents were little in our history lessons. We have been looking at different methods of listening to music such as vinyl records, CDs tapes iPods and even smart speakers and trying to put them in chronological order. The children loved looking at the different artefacts and discussing what they could have been used for.
In science we’ve begun to identify and name the parts of the human body and we had great fun labelling chalk outlines with the correct body part names.
Through our classroom challenges we have been learning how to mix secondary colours using paint. We have also been looking at the traditional tail The Three Little Pigs which we have been telling using puppets and also using a stimulus for building different houses We have had our first gymnastics lesson with a specialist teacher and the children have enjoyed making different shapes with their bodies.
In maths the children have been learning how to read numbers 0-10 written as words. They have had a really good go at this using both their phonics skills and also by looking at the initial letters and using reasoning to work out which numbers they could be.
This week the children have had their first lessons in their new phonics groups. They have made a great start and will be bringing home books and resources shortly.
