Spring 1 Week 6 14.2.25

Hello!

This week we have learnt about the artist Paul Klee who was an abstract artist. He was in fact friends with Kandinsky who we learnt about earlier in the year! We learnt how to create collage artwork in the style of Paul Klee.

We have been learning about being safe on the internet and we recapped what to do if we see something that upsets us, that makes us feel uncomfortable or that we don’t understand. We read the story of Smartie the Penguin who reminded us to put our device down and talk to a trusted adult if this happens. We learnt about what personal information means and that we shouldn’t share this on online. The personal information we talked about included: name, address, birthday, photos of me, my school and places I go. We discussed what ‘scam’ means: that someone is trying to trick us to get money or our personal information.

In maths we learnt about different lengths of time: seconds, minutes and hours. We tested different things we could do in a minute. You might like to try this at home and set some challenges. How many times can you write your name in a minute? How many times can you run round the garden in a minute? Here is a link to some fun timers you can use: https://www.online-stopwatch.com/classroom-timers/

We have been recapping how to make 6 and 7 in different ways. We have used double sided counters for this. At home you could use red grapes and green grapes, Smarties or different coloured socks to show making these numbers in different ways. We have also recapped 1 more and 1 less and we have played the missing number game. You might like to play a missing number game at home. Get 5 teddies then ask your child to close their eyes. Hide an amount of teddies. Can your child tell you how many are hiding by recalling their number bonds to 5?

In maths after the holidays we will be noticing the 5 and more structure. The children will be recapping 1:1 counting and we will use the language of 5 and more to identify how the numbers 6, 7 and 8 are composed. This will help the children to be able to order numbers and reason how they know which number comes before and after.

After the holidays, we will be learning about life cycles and about which animals hatch from eggs. In the first week back we will be having some surprise visitors! At home you could research animals that come from eggs.

The children have had a fantastic half term and they are becoming confident and independent learners! We hope you have a lovely half- term and enjoy a break from the school routine.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
