Year 6 headed off to Ripon this week to kick off our topic on Crime and Punishment through the ages. The children visited two of Ripon's museums - The Police and Prison Museum and the Old Courthouse Museum. Our morning was spent discovering how criminal activity was dealt with in the Victorian Era, including transportation, corporal punishment and how the first Police Force was formed. In the afternoon, we walked to the imposing 1800's courthouse where we took part in a mock trial, complete with prosecutors, defenders, the accused, a judge and jury! The day was fantastic and it certainly kicked off our topic in style and we can't wait to learn more as we go along!
