In our history lesson this week, we welcomed Alex from the National Holocaust Centre into school where we learnt all about Leo's Journey. Leo is based on a holocaust survivor, Steve, and tells his story from being a 10-year-old in Nazi occupied Germany, to his journey on Kindertransport from Berlin to London. Children had chance to explore the reasons behind Leo's need to leave Germany and related this to their topic learning from the rest of the term. At the end, children heard from a real survivor of the holocaust through the survivor project which was absolutely fantastic. The children showed real maturity and asked some thoughtful and meaningful questions. Well done Year 6!
In science, we have been continuing our learning around the circulatory system and this week we answered the question, 'What is in our blood?'. We had a fantastic afternoon of making our own 'blood' using different foods to learn the function of the red blood cells (red dyed cheerios), white blood cells (mini marshmallows), platelets (rice) and plasma (water). The children ended the session with more knowledge of what these individual components do, and a lovely jar of home-made blood!!
