This week, the children in Year 3 have been super busy!
In writing, we have been editing our instructions and have been re-drafting our final copies. We have then moved onto our next writing unit which is turning our pranks into a chapter of the Twits. On Friday, the children practised creating expanded noun phrases in groups.
In history, the children learnt about the Neolithic period or the 'New Stone Age'. They learnt that during this part of the Stone Age, humans started to settle in small villages and built roundhouses. They learnt that during this period of time, people no longer were nomadic and didn't have to hunt and gather and became farmers. We then looked at the existing Neolithic settlement Skara Brae, which helped the children to understand how we know this is what the Neolithic period would have been like. The children then went outside and created their own Neolithic villages.
In reading lessons, the children have been looking at a non-fiction text about Neolithic roundhouses. They learnt about about the types of things that would have been found in a roundhouse and the purpose of each.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the children did their first walk as part of the new walking curriculum. We did the Hawksworth Wood loop and the children really enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, whilst exercising their bodies and taking in the fresh air!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
