We have had a lovely but a very busy week in Year 3!
In writing, the children continued to practise using expanded noun phrases. They then began writing their own chapter of the Twits, using the expanded noun phrases they generated last week and earlier this week to enhance their writing.
In our maths lessons, the children have continued their learning on addition and subtraction and have started to learn about exchanges. When adding and subtracting ones over 10 and 10s over 100, they have been practising using practical resources (eg. dienes) to represent the number then adding or subtracting numbers, making exchanges when needed.
In history, the children learnt about Stonehenge. We first looked at pictures and the children gave suggestions to what they thought it was. We were super impressed with some knowledge the children already had of Stonehenge from additional reading they had been doing. We then learnt about the different theories to why it was built and also how it was built. Then, we went outside and had a go at building our own version of Stonehenge, using building blocks and other natural resources they could find in the wildlife area.
In PE, we have been working on our netball and tag rugby skills. In tag rugby on Monday, we practised our passing skills, then introduced the use of tags for the first time. The children played some mini games to get used to how we remove the tags, then did a relay race to practise moving with the ball. In netball, we focused on the role of a goal keeper. The children played a small 4v4 game, where each child had to receive the ball before passing it to the child in goal to score a point for their team.
In outdoor learning with Mrs Fletcher, the children in 3L had a go at doing their own cave-style paintings. They first had to grind up different coloured chalks, adding water to then paint on slate.
