Autumn 1 Week 1

Year 5 – First Week Back

We are so proud of how well Year 5 have settled into the new school year. The children have quickly got used to our routines and expectations, showing maturity, kindness and lots of enthusiasm ⭐

This week we launched our Amazon Rainforest topic. The children explored South America on the map, locating different countries and beginning to learn about the geography of the continent. They shared excellent questions and curiosity about the rainforest and its wildlife 🌳

In maths we have been reading and writing numbers up to one million. The children worked carefully and showed great perseverance as they practised these important place value skills 🔢

In English we made predictions about our new class book The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. The children shared thoughtful ideas about what might happen and have already enjoyed reading the opening chapters 📖

Our art lessons started with a focus on Henri Rousseau. The children created a double page research spread, finding out about his life and his jungle-inspired paintings, which will inspire our own artwork later this term 🎨

It has been a busy but brilliant first week back. We are so impressed with the positive attitude Year 5 have shown and we are looking forward to the term ahead 🌟
