Hello!
We’d like to say how proud we are of all the children following rules and routines and settling into school life.
This week in phonics we started the week continuing blending and segmenting sounds using a range of games with Fred the frog. We have also learned the first 3 sounds, based on our Read Write Inc phonics scheme. These are m, a and s.
Here are some videos that you might like to use at home this week:

In maths, we have been learning how to subitise amounts up to 3. We have been discussing what we notice about the amounts and talking about how the amounts have been positioned. You can play quick subitising games at home by covering amounts with a dish and quickly revealing the amount.

As part of our understanding the world topic, ‘Which places are special to members of our community?’ we have been talking about our houses. The children have looked at pictures of houses in Farsley and noticed they are different but have some similarities! We have explored language linked to houses (detached, semi-detached, terrace, bungalow, flat) and have described the houses we live in. The children have enjoyed chatting about their families and pets who live with them. We thought about places that are special to us. You might like to talk about this more at home and look at photographs together of places that are special to you as a family. Thank you for all the photos you emailed of your houses. It has been lovely to share these in class.
Your child will have received their reading record and a wordless book.
Reading record: You are welcome to write a short message to inform the reception staff about your child’s reading at home.
Wordless book: There is a sheet stuck into the reading record which gives more detail about this.
Numbots password: This is stuck onto the front of the reading record. You can download the app or go onto the Numbots website. It is important that when your child uses this programme, that they are doing so independently so that the programme can track their progress correctly.
Two dates for your diary:
Tuesday 16th September 6.30pm Phonics Online Parents Meeting
Tuesday 23rd September 6.30pm Maths Online Parents Meeting
You will receive links to access these via email the day before each meeting.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Reception team
