Autumn 1 Week 4

It’s been another busy and exciting week in Year 2!

In maths, we’ve been building on our understanding of place value. The children loved taking their learning outdoors, where they counted in 2s, 5s and 10s through play-based activities. They chanted, jumped and sang as they counted, even creating their own chalk number lines. Using natural resources like conkers, sticks and bark, they showed such creativity in practising their counting – we were so impressed!

In history, we explored the fascinating history of flight. The children discovered that the very first flying machine was the hot air balloon, invented by the Montgolfier brothers. They worked in groups to reenact this invention and proudly performed their scenes for the class.

In science, we looked at how offspring resemble their parents, identifying similarities and differences between animals and their young.

In music, the children explored new skills using “So” and “Mi” to sing different pitches, complete with special hand signals. They also learned to notate rhythm patterns using “Ta” and “Te-te” while performing songs such as Engine Engine Number 9 and Hey Hey Look at Me.

Finally, we ended the week wearing our pyjamas to raise money for Macmillan.
