Autumn 1 Week 4

Year 5 Autumn Week 4

This week in English we have been learning to punctuate speech accurately in our writing. The children practised using inverted commas, commas and question marks to make their dialogue clear and engaging. Their writing is becoming even more expressive and detailed ✍️

In maths we focused on addition and subtraction. The children worked carefully with larger numbers and showed great perseverance when solving tricky calculations 🔢

In geography we continued our rainforest topic by locating different rainforests around the world. The children explored their positions on the map and discussed the climates, animals and plants found in each one 🌳

In computing we continued our online safety unit, thinking carefully about how to stay safe online and make responsible choices when using technology 💻

In music Year 5 practised their polyrhythms in West African music. They performed four different rhythms at the same time using djembes, claves, shakers and guiros, showing brilliant teamwork. Some children even added a short solo on their instrument, improvising their own rhythm patterns 🥁

On Friday we had a fun end to the week for Macmillan Coffee Morning, wearing pyjamas and enjoying cakes with our friends 🍰 Some children also took part in cross country in the afternoon, showing determination and energy 🏃

It has been another busy and enjoyable week in Year 5! 🌟
