Autumn 1 Week 6

Autumn 1 Week 6

In maths this week, Y6 have been continuing their work on division and long division. The children have been using some methods they have never used before and some of the Y6 children enjoyed this aspect of maths when investigating long division through factors.  The children have also been applying division methods to problem solving questions and using approximation to see if their answer is likely. Keep going with your times tables, Y6!

Earlier this week, the children planned a descriptive piece about WWI and what the soldiers might have experienced on the battlefield. They then produced their final piece, ensuring they were using a range of expanded noun phrases, relative clauses, similes and metaphors to name just a few. We have been amazed by the hard work displayed by the children and their pieces are brilliant! In reading, we are continuing with our class novel, Private Peaceful, and we can’t wait to see what happens to Molly and Charlie. Remember to keep working on your reading journals.

Year 6 are continuing with their Keyboard Challenge, working independently on different solo keyboard pieces, and performing when they are ready. They are all working at their own pace and level, but challenging themselves with every new piece they learn. For outdoor learning, the children were continuing with activities linked to our WWI topic. The children had to rescue two pilots who had been injured and build stretches, and create ambulances out of materials from the scrap shed. Check out the pictures to see Y6 in action!

On behalf of Y6, we would like to say a huge thank you for your generous donations to help with our Macmillan coffee event a few weeks ago. We raised an amazing £887.80! We could not have done it without your help and support, so thank you yet again!
