We have also continued to blend sounds to make words using the sound cards and magnet boards. Here is a video to watch with your child:

Your child could use their sound cards to make the words in the video. Can they show you how to do Fred Talk, Read the Word? (Point to each sound as you say it then run your finger along the sounds as you say the full word).
Thank you for all your support at home helping your child to practise their sounds and their handwriting.
Here are some Fred games you might like to play at home:

In maths, we have been identifying circles and triangles and talking about the properties of these shapes, including the vocabulary straight, curved, sides and corners. We talked about how a circle has a continuous curve. We looked at different types of circles and triangles. You might like to spot these shapes at home or out and about on a walk. Can your child tell you how they know it is a circle or a triangle? We have also been comparing quantities. At home you could get two teddies and give one teddy 4 strawberries and the other teddy 2 strawberries. Who has more? Or perhaps you could build towers using Lego or Duplo. We have been playing a game with a dice where one player rolls the dice and makes a tower with that number of blocks, then the other player does the same. Who has more? Or are they the same? Then you can roll the dice again and add to your tower. Who has more now?
In Understanding the World, we have been learning about the different seasons. Here is a link to the song we sang in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksGiLaIx39c We have learnt that we have 4 seasons and we have learnt some different features of the different seasons. We then looked more at the season of Autumn and talked about how it is getting dark earlier, that leaves are falling from the trees and changing colours, conkers are falling from the trees, animals are gathering food and storing it ready for the winter and that it is time to harvest foods, including pumpkins. When you are out and about this weekend can your child spot and talk about features of Autumn?
Next week in maths, we will be making AB patterns with actions and sounds, such as clap, stomp, clap, stomp… We will also be practising 1:1 counting to 5 and exploring more about the number 5, making collections of 5 items and arranging 5 in different ways using a Hungarian number frame (die frame). Here is a link to a Hungarian number frame that you can use at home: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/hungarianFrame
This link explains more about the composition of number: https://www.ncetm.org.uk/features/exploring-the-composition-of-number/
Next week we will be exploring the topic ‘Healthy Me’. We will learn about a balanced diet, how to keep healthy by being active, looking after our mind and also how to keep our body and teeth clean.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Reception team
