Year 5 Autumn Week 7
In maths this week we have been learning about prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers, as well as multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 by moving the digits. The children worked really hard and showed a great understanding of these new concepts 🔢
In reading we have been practising our inference skills, using clues in the text to help us understand how characters might be feeling and what might happen next. The children gave thoughtful answers and supported their ideas with evidence from the story 📖
In PE we continued developing our football skills, focusing on teamwork, passing and control. We also had lots of fun taking part in a dodgeball tournament, competing in our house teams – Jaguars, Lions, Panthers and Tigers. There was great energy, teamwork and plenty of smiles throughout ⚽
In geography we applied our river knowledge to the Amazon River, learning about its features and importance. The children worked in groups to create their own representations of the river using maps and art materials – see our fantastic photos below 🌊📸
In music the children finished their West African music unit. Each class created their own piece featuring four layers of polyrhythms, using djembes and other percussion instruments. Some children even improvised short solos, and everyone joined together for a big, powerful ending to finish the piece. They did a brilliant job and should feel very proud 🥁
We also continued with our swimming lessons this week. The children are growing in confidence each time and it’s wonderful to see their progress in the pool 🏊
It has been another active and exciting week in Year 5 🌟
