We've had another busy week in Year 3.
In maths, the children furthered their understanding of addition and subtraction and began learning the column method. We did lots of practical work using dienes to help the children understand what was happening, exchanging dienes when it crossed ten. We have also continued to practise our times tables using lots of cone games.
In history, the children learnt about life in Britain during the Stone Age. They looked specifically at two sites: Star Carr and Victoria Cave, both located in Yorkshire. We looked at what evidence was found there and how that proves what happened there during the Stone Age. The children then did an active task outside to learn more about Star Carr and Victoria Cave.
In science, the children learnt about shadow and how they change size depending on their distance from the light source. The children used mini people characters, a metre ruler and a light source to measure this.
In writing, the children continued to write their own chapters of the prank, based on those from the Twits. This allowed the children the opportunity to embed their understanding of expanded noun phrases, using them in their writing to improve the quality of their work.
In PSHE this week, we did a circle time. In this lesson, we practised our listening and oracy skills by using an object to hold when we were talking. When this happened, everyone else had to listen. We discussed friendships, what a healthy friendship looks like and the qualities a good friend has. We then discussed what we would do in a range of different scenarios.
We also had our Year 3 dodgeball tournament this week, where the children played short 7 minute games in their house teams. They had a fantastic time and all children played fantastically. Well done to Jaguars who took the victory!
