Autumn 2 Week 1

Autumn 2 Week 1

Welcome back to another half term! This week, Y6 have been learning about direct speech in writing, have been doing lots of fraction work as well as reading our new class novel, Once, and practising ball skills in PE to help us play handball correctly which we will cover in the next few weeks.

In maths, we have been looking at equivalent fractions and simplifying, and then comparing and ordering fractions with different denominators and numerators. We have also been doing daily arithmetic and covering certain timestables. Keep up the hard work, Y6!

In writing, we have been learning about the rules of direct speech and how to puncutuate  and set it out correctly. We have also been looking at the suffix ' ible' in our spelling work and applying this to our writing. Over the next week, we will be planning and writing a  conversation, and then acting it out as part of our oracy learning. We can't wait to see the end results!

We have started our new history topic all about WWII and how it affected Yorkshire. Our first lesson was to know a little about the Holocaust and the children were absolutely brilliant with their questioning and mature attitude towards such a sensitive issue. Some children have also brought in artefacts from home relating to WWII or have been doing extra research work and then sharing it with the class. Fantastic!
