This week in Year 2, we have been taking part in Anti-Bullying Week. We’ve been learning how to recognise different types of behaviour, including friendly joking, teasing, and bullying. Through our discussions and activities, we talked about how important it is to treat everyone with kindness and respect.
The children showed great understanding when thinking about what to do if they ever see or experience unkind behaviour. Year 2 were brilliant at identifying that we should always tell a trusted adult if we see or hear something that makes us feel sad, worried, or unsafe.
In maths, we have continued to learn how to add two 2-digit numbers using the tens and ones method. The children have been drawing pictorials to support their working out, which has really helped them to see when an exchange is needed when crossing over the ten.
They have shown fantastic focus and growing confidence with their addition skills! We then moved on to subtracting using this method. Next week we will focus on exchanging a ten for ten ones when crossing over the ten.
In writing the children have been identifying the features of a non- fiction texts. In the coming weeks, the children will be writing a non-chronological report about Emperor Penguins. We have been reading lots of interesting facts that we can use in our own non-fiction writing.
