Hello!
In maths this week we have been identifying circles and triangles. We have used the vocabulary: straight, curved, sides, corners. Can you spot any circles or triangles around the home or when you are out and about. You might like to go on a shape hunt. You can send in any pictures or videos through Tapestry and we can share these in class.
This week has been ‘Anti-bullying week’ across school. In reception, we have been learning about what bullying means. The children have learnt that bullying is something which happens over and over again, not just one time. They have learnt about physical and verbal bullying. We have explored this year’s theme which is ‘Being respectful’ and we have thought about how we can show respectful behaviour towards others.
We also watched a Topsy and Tim story about bullying. Here is the link to watch again at home: https://youtu.be/hhH9NCtaZt8
We talked about what happened in the story and how Topsy and Tim helped their friend get the help he needed. We have discussed what we could do if we saw someone being hurt or hurting another person and we talked about speaking up and talking to our trusted adults.
Next week in maths we will be learning to identify a whole and its parts by looking at different resources such as our body and its parts and toys that are available in provision. The children will identify the whole object and then discuss the parts of the object. The reason why we are teaching this is so that when the children learn about how a number is composed they will be able to identify the whole number and the parts of the number. For example, they will know that 1 and 2 are parts of 3. We will also be learning to use positional language to describe the position of an object in relation to another, using the following vocabulary: in front, behind, between, in, on, under.
Next week in Understanding the World we will be learning about The Arctic. Your child may already know facts about the region of the world if they have interests in animals. At home you could begin to research where the Arctic is, what it is like and the animals and people that live in there.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
