What another busy week it has been in Year 6! We have been mastering our fractions work, reading more into Once, practicing our gymnastic skills in PE, having fun in the pool and becoming scientists in our Circulatory System topic.
In maths we have been learning about fractions of an amount and finding the whole from a fraction. Children used their arithmetic knowledge and applied this to some really tricky problems that they tackled with determination and perseverance. Keep up the brilliant work - your arithmetic is coming on brilliantly, keep working on those times tables!
Our writing and reading work this week has been centred around 'Once' by Morris Glietzman. Where we have been learning about Felix's journey to the 'city' to find his parents. It has been a real journey of realisation for both Felix and our Year 6 children, with the book forming the basis of excellent discussions. Our writing has also used 'Once' as inspiration, where we have been applying our knowledge of descriptive devices to portray character.
Alongside all of this, we have continued to learn all about the circulatory system, investigating the impact of exercise on heart rate. We spent time learning about how to take our pulse, what this showed us and then planning and carrying out an investigation to prove that the more vigorously we exercise, the higher the heart rate. We saw this in real life when we went swimming on Friday!
