Autumn 2 Week 4 and 5

This week in maths we have been building on our on our Year 1 knowledge of 2D shape. We have been recapping shape names and learning to recognise shapes by their properties. We have sorted shaped by their properties and learned to explain our reasoning using mathematical language.  We have learnt that 2d shapes have vertices and sides. We have also been learning that shapes have lines of symmetry and that they can be vertical lines and horizontal lines. Using our knowledge of shape, we have practised how to draw 2D shapes by drawing dots on squared paper and joining up the points with a ruler to create sides and vertices.

In Writing we have been learning how to construct a non-chronological report about Emperor Penguins. We have been learning to order paragraphs by using subheadings. Our paragraphs contained information that added more information about the subheading. We have made our writing interesting to read by using suitable adjectives and linked factual phrases by using conjunctions. We have also learnt to use bullet points to highlight interesting facts.

In RE we have been learning how different religions have rules to help people make good choices. We have learnt about how Christians follow the 10 commandments and how Musilms follow the 5 pillars of Islam. These help people to be kind and show respect and treat others equally
