Autumn 2 Week 5

Autumn 2 Week 5

As always, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard this week in all our lessons. We have been bringing our history topic to a close, showing off everything we have learnt in our assembly, taken some assessments and had a fantastic trip to Leeds Playhouse.

In our writing this week, we have been continuing to work on our description skills by using a character's actions and features to show us what kind of person they are. We've been using similes, metaphors, personification and so much more to ensure our reader knew that the Nazi officer in our story was mean and evil.

We had a fantastic trip to Leeds Playhouse this week where we got to see 'A Christmas Carol' which we have used as a focus to our reading lessons. We looked at how the character of Scrooge is seen at the start of the story and it was wonderful to then see his character evolve in front of our eyes, live on stage!

We have been sitting a set of practice tests this week and the children have absolutely smashed it. As we go through the year, we will practice lots of times to make sure that when our SATs come around, it's just another day and the element of the unknown has been completely removed. They are a very small part of our year but one we want to make sure we are confident with when the time does come.

Alongside all of this, we have been practicing for our class assembly which was a fantastic success; getting our residential groups and dorms sorted...nearly; continuing with our gymnastics lessons and even managed to fit in some spelling, handwriting, times tables battles and reading journaling. We can't wait to see what next week will bring!
