Spring 1 Week 1

Spring 1 Week 1

Year 6 returned to school after the Christmas break full of energy and ready to learn. It is hard to believe that in a few short weeks we will be half way through the year but what a lot we have covered already!

In our maths this week, we have been learning all about ratio - a new unit of work for Year 6. The children have absolutely smashed it and are now super confident in recognising the ratio symbol, using it to compare components of an amount and relating ratio to a fraction. As well as this, we have continued to work on our arithmetic skills.

In writing, we are beginning to look at how to adapt our style for different audiences and purpose. Our focus this week has been on using formal language and over the coming weeks we will apply this to letter writing based on our new class novel, 'Holes'.

We are lucky this half term to have Brad, a specialist sports coach from Leeds Rhinos, delivering our tag rugby unit. Despite the freezing cold temperatures on Friday, the children fully threw themselves into the session and we have some budding rugby stars in our midst!

We are also going to be doing lots of outdoor learning this half term and started this on Tuesday with a session in our woodland area where we made bird feeders for the species we have living on our school grounds.

Another super busy but very enjoyable week. Keep up the hard work Year 6!
