This week, we welcomed Year 5 back after the Christmas holidays. The children have shown great enthusiasm and a positive attitude to their learning throughout the week.

In maths, we have been developing our multiplication skills by learning how to multiply two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers. The children worked hard to apply their knowledge using different strategies and showed excellent perseverance. 🔢

In English, we launched our new instruction-writing unit, How to Train Your Dragon. The children have enjoyed exploring modal verbs and fronted adverbials, using them to add detail and authority to their writing. 🐉✏️

In reading, we began our new class text, Beowulf. The children have been fascinated by the epic tale and have started to explore the characters, setting and themes within the story. 📖

During PE, the focus has been on gymnastics, where the children have been practising cartwheels. They demonstrated excellent control, balance and determination as they worked to improve their technique. 🤸‍♀️

In computing, the children have been learning how to use spreadsheets, entering data and exploring how they can be used to organise information. 💻

Finally, in Spanish, we have started our new topic La Ropa (clothes). The children enjoyed learning new vocabulary and practising how to describe what they are wearing. 👕🇪🇸
