In English this week, the children have been continuing in their phonics groups. Most children are now most of the way through the Set 3 sounds and their focus this term is on building speed and fluency as they move through the colour books. We also continued our learning around the book 'On Sudden Hill' where the children wrote speech bubbles in character using the capital I for the personal pronoun. We also begun learning about the past tense and how to change some verbs to the past tense using the suffix - ed.
In Maths, the children impressed us with their knowledge of the number 20 and they begun looking at the number line to 20, finding missing numbers and finding 1 more and 1 less than numbers up to 20.
We continued learning about materials in Science, where the children had to discuss the different properties of materials within their groups. We then played a game where the children had to 'find something opaque' or 'find something rough'. They are continuing with this next week in their independent challenges.
In Art, the children finished off their artist studies all about the Land artist Andy Goldsworthy. This is the first time the children have ever done an artist study and we were blown away with their efforts - have a look at the photos of their sketchbooks.
1BW also went outside to make their very own Land Art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy using natural materials.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
