As always, Year 3 has had a very busy and fun-filled week with lots of exciting learning experiences.
On Tuesday, the children took part in outdoor learning where they worked together to create a free-standing pyramid using large sticks. They carefully tied the sticks together with rope, showing fantastic teamwork and problem-solving skills. Once their structures were complete, the children placed a tarp over the top to finish their pyramids. To end the session, one person in each group became the “mummy” and was wrapped in toilet paper, which the children absolutely loved. Also in writing lessons this week, the children began planning their Howard Carter diary entries. They moved around the classroom looking closely at different pictures and discussed what they could see, touch and smell in each image, helping them to generate rich vocabulary and ideas.
On Wednesday, in history, the children learnt all about the gods and goddesses that the Ancient Egyptians worshipped. They then took part in a Kahoot quiz to test their knowledge, which the children thoroughly enjoyed and showed great enthusiasm for.
On Friday, Year 3 took part in “Wear Yellow” for Cystic Fibrosis, raising awareness of the illness. in DT, the children planned and designed their own mystery boxes. Using nets, the children decorated their boxes with a range of Egyptian symbols and hieroglyphics, showing creativity and careful attention to detail. In maths, the children learnt about division with remainders and used lollipop sticks to deepen their understanding. In PSHE, the children explored the question “Why do people bully?”. They worked together to think about the reasons bullying might happen and what bullying can look like. The children then discussed what to do if they are being bullied and created a list of rules to follow.
It has been another fantastic week in Year 3, and we are so proud of the children’s teamwork, creativity and thoughtful discussions.
