Spring 1 Week 5

Spring 1 Week 5

This week has been full of creativity and collaboration in Year 3.

In Design and Technology, the children completed their final pieces by designing and making a 3D shape linked to our Ancient Egyptian topic. They created their own nets from scratch and carefully assembled them to hold a fact or artefact, showing great problem-solving skills and perseverance.

As part of our new walking curriculum, Year 3 set off on their second walk of the academic year this week, completing the Apperley Bridge Circular. The route was just over four miles long, and the children did an amazing job, showing great determination and enthusiasm throughout. Along the way, they enjoyed walking beside the River Aire and the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, taking in the local scenery and wildlife. A real highlight for 3M was spotting deer in the wild! We are incredibly proud of how well all the children rose to the challenge.

In Writing, the focus was on practising prepositions within sentences. The children also generated expanded noun phrases to describe Ancient Egypt, helping them to add detail and interest to their writing.

In History, the class learnt more about the pyramids, discussing their purpose and how they were built. Working in groups, the children then built their own pyramids using LEGO, developing teamwork and historical understanding.

During Outdoor Learning, the children designed and made Ancient Egyptian–inspired pulley systems, exploring how simple machines work through hands-on investigation.

It’s been another exciting week of practical, cross-curricular learning in Year 3!
