Spring 1 Week 6

During the final week of this half term, Year 2 learned about another inspirational woman, Nellie Spindler, as part of our local history topic. The children discovered that Nellie was a nurse who worked during World War One. She was born in Wakefield and trained in Leeds. Working collaboratively, the children created informative posters all about Nellie and her life. To conclude our learning, the class took part in a debate, discussing who they felt had made the biggest impact and explaining their reasons.

It was also Mental Health Awareness Week in school. The children attended assemblies and workshops focused on wellbeing and we were pleased to be visited by our school’s Mental Health Ambassadors, who shared helpful advice and activities with the children.

In maths, we continued our learning on multiplication and division through grouping and sharing. We also introduced the 2 times table and simple division. Children can access Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at home — their login details are the same as for NumBots. Please do not feel any pressure to use this - it is simply a helpful tool to support fluency with times tables.
