Spring 2 Week 1

Year 5 have made a fantastic start to the new half term, Spring 2, and have already thrown themselves enthusiastically into their new learning.

In History, we have launched our exciting new topic on the Vikings. The children have been keen to share their prior knowledge and are looking forward to exploring Viking life, raids and settlements in more detail over the coming weeks. In Writing, we are linking our learning to this topic by retelling a Viking saga. The class have enjoyed exploring the features of these dramatic tales and are beginning to craft their own powerful narratives inspired by Viking legends.

Our new class reading book is 'The 1000 Year Old Boy' by Ross Welford. The children are already gripped by the story and are engaging in thoughtful discussions and predictions about what they think might happen in the story.

In Computing, Year 5 have started working with micro:bits. They are developing their understanding of coding and enjoying the challenge of programming and testing their own digital creations.

In PE, the children are focusing on dance. They have been learning key concepts and principles of dance and have begun choreographing a short routine to samba music. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and creativity shine through.

Outdoor Learning has also been full of excitement, with the children trying their hand at archery and taking part in activities such as grouping animals together. These sessions have encouraged teamwork, resilience and problem-solving skills.

In Maths, we are continuing our work on decimals, building confidence with place value and calculations.

In Spanish, we have begun a new topic on pets, where the children are learning new vocabulary and practising speaking in full sentences.

Well done, Year 5, for such a positive and enthusiastic start to Spring 2 – we are looking forward to another brilliant half term of learning!
