Spring 2 Week 6 4.3.25

Hello!

This week has been a very exciting and busy end to our Spring term!

Our focus for the week has been Arts Week. We learnt about the artist Alberto Giacometti who was a painter and sculptor. We created some sculptures of our own using foil.

The children have experienced a variety of live music throughout the week, starting with The Plumber Drummer on Monday morning where he showed us his amazing instrument which is a set of different length pipes encased in a moveable cage. There are lots of videos on social media so you might like to look at some of these with your children at home. This is his website: https://theplumberdrummeruk.co.uk/

The children enjoyed a bucket drumming workshop with Nathan (The Plumber Drummer) on Tuesday morning and they were inspired to create drums in the outdoor area using the resources we have. It has been a very noisy week!

We have enjoyed live music from some of our ex-pupils and a musician called Sam Barrett who played lots of folk music on a 12 string guitar, a banjo and a mandolin. The children also had the opportunity to watch the dress rehearsal for the Key Stage 2 Talent Show.

Thank you for the wonderful egg creations you have supported your children in making and bringing in for our Egg Competition. There have been so many wonderful ideas and we can see that a lot of thought and time has been spent creating the masterpieces. The children were able to have a look at other entries from the other year groups. They were very respectful when walking around the Egg Gallery and remembered the rule about looking and not touching.

This week in maths we have been recapping the composition of the numbers 6, 7 and 8. If you have an empty egg box at home you could put different objects into the compartments eg some green grapes and some red grapes to see how you could make 6. You might like to play a game with 2 plates where you have 7 objects and put some on one plate and some on the other and see how you have made 7. How many different ways can you make 7? Maybe you could take some photos. Or you might like to play a game with 8 buttons. Scatter them onto paper and with a pen draw around the groups eg 3 and 3 and 2 make 8!

After the holidays in maths we will be counting larger amounts to 20 and beyond and discussing strategies to help count accurately. We will be counting moveable and immoveable objects.

After the holidays we will be doing a Talk 4 Writing unit based upon The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You might have this book at home. Maybe you could read this before coming back to school. In Week 3 we will be inviting you to our Reception Assembly which will be based on our learning of The Very Hungry Caterpillar where we will be able to show you all of our wonderful work.

The children have had a busy half term. They deserve a well-earned rest! We hope that you have a lovely break over Easter and enjoy some time with your family.

Take care,
The Reception team
