Summer 1 Week 2 2.5.25

Hello!

This week in maths, we have been focusing on subitising and recognising arrangements of 6. We have been creating our own arrangements of 6 and using positional language to describe the arrangements. We have been looking again at doubles and how the Numberblocks with flat tops are doubles. You might like to watch this episode of Numberblocks at home with your child: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgksd/numberblocks-series-2-six

In maths next week we will be consolidating our understanding of the composition of 5. We will be using our knowledge of smaller numbers to create larger numbers from ‘5 and a bit’ using 5 and 2 to make 7 for instance. The children will be using a variety of strategies for this including the Hungarian Dice Pattern, 5 frames and other pictorials. You might like to explore making numbers to 10 using 5 and a bit on this Mathsbot program: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/hungarianFrame

This week the children have enjoyed becoming authors! They have used their phonic knowledge to write the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children are very confident at verbally retelling the story which has supported their sentence writing.

The children are very excited to share their learning with you in our reception assembly on Friday 9th May at 2.30pm.

In Understanding the World next week, we will be learning about toys from the past and comparing them with toys that the children have in school and at home. We will discuss the use of the toys and what they are made from. The children will have the opportunity to talk about their favourite toy with their class.

As the weather gets warmer please make sure your child has a sun hat and sun cream applied before school. Sun cream that you apply once which lasts for 8 hours is ideal as then children don’t have to reapply throughout the day. If your child does need to bring sun cream into school, we will guide them to apply this independently.

Have a lovely weekend!
