Summer 2 Week 2 13.6.25

This week we have continued with our minibeasts topic. The children have enjoyed using the magnifying glasses to look for more minibeasts in our garden and they have been completing some wonderful bug factfile pieces of writing. We have learnt about useful minibeasts such as bees. We have learnt about spiders and different types of spiders around the world. The children have been busy in the creative area using their fine motor skills to create some wonderful spider webs and collaging insects making sure they have a head, thorax and an abdomen, just like in our favourite song! Here is a link to our favourite insect song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxH7NBbL9JY

Next week we will be doing our final Talk 4 Writing unit based on the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children will be learning the story off by heart with actions too. They will be having a go at writing the story themselves too using their fantastic phonic knowledge.

This week in maths the children have recapped the use of positional language. We looked at objects being ‘next to, under, above, in between, in front of and behind’ and we discussed how this can change depending on where you are looking from. We have been using the rekenreks again to practice using one push. We have been counting numbers past 10 and arranging objects so that they are easier to count.

Next week in maths the children will be looking at how a teen number is composed. We will be identifying the tens and the extra ones. The children will use numicon and tens frames to support their understanding of a teen number being made of a ten and extra ones. They will match images with numerals and make their own representations of teen numbers.

Next week your child will need PE kit on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday your child will need their white t-shirt as normal. On Tuesday for Sports Day if your child has a t-shirt that matches the colour of their team then we encourage them to wear this as it helps us to see which team they belong in on the day and also makes for a lovely colourful morning! Team colours are red for Lions, yellow for Tigers, green for Panthers and blue for Jaguars.

Please continue to send in sun hats, apply sun cream and provide your child with a water bottle each day as they weather continues to be warm and sunny.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
