Our aim is to ensure every child feels prepared, supported, and confident as they take their next steps. To help pupils with SEN be prepared for a new school year we:
- ask both the current teacher, the next year’s teacher, the parent, the child and where required the SENCO to attend a final meeting of the year when the pupil’s SEN is discussed
- schedule lessons with the incoming teacher towards the end of the summer term
- Have a transition day or additional transition visits the ‘new class’
We also offer a comprehensive transition programme to support children as they move to their next phase of education. This includes:
- Bespoke transition packages, such as working with the Virtual School
- Additional visits to new settings to build familiarity and confidence
- Transition meetings with parents/carers and receiving schools
- Preparation activities tailored to pupils’ needs
- Enhanced support for children with complex needs
- A Year 6 transition group for identified pupils, running over six weeks
