Autumn 1 Week 4
WOW - what a week it has been for our amazing Y6 children! From climbing Pen-y-ghent, to leaning all about WWI at Leeds Discovery Centre, to having a coffee morning/afternoon raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and then fitting in lessons, it just shows what a brilliant year group we have.
Pen-y-ghent was enjoyed by most pupils
and we are so very proud of everyone who took part (staff too) as everyone managed to get to the summit - what a brilliant achievement! The weather was very kind to us and we have some brilliant photies that you can check out. Again, a HUGE well done to all involved!
Y6 also went out for half a day and visited Leeds Discover Centre where the children took part in a workshop about WWI and had the chance to look at lots of real primary sources, helping us to understand what soldiers, women and children experienced. After the workshop, we had a tour of the store room, which holds over 1 million historical objects. It was brilliant to do a history lesson off site and find out so much interesting information about WWI.
To add to our busy week, both classes were involved in outdoor learning where the children did some wild tie-dying using various fabrics and berry juice. We are still reading our class Novel, Private Peaceful, which the chidren are really enjoying and in maths this week we have been looking at factors and multiples.
Finally, on Friday, both classes invited family members to join us in the hall for a Macmillan coffee event to raise money for this brilliant charity that provides cancer support. The children were absolutely wonderful and looked very smart in their waiters uniforms! On behalf of all Y6, we would like to say a HUGE thank you to parents, grandparents, friends etc for all the cake donations, raffle prizes and your fabulous support for our school, our children - we couldn't do events like Macmillan without you all! What a fabulous end to a rather hectic but totally enjoyable, fun packed and money raising week!
THANK YOU!!
