Spring 2 Week 1

Spring 2 Week 1

We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday and now Y6 are ready to begin another busy and fun half term. Let's see what we've been up to!

In maths, we began our new unit on decimals. Throughout the week, we have been looking at place value when dealing with integers and decimals, rounding to the nearset tenth, hundredth and thousandth and adding and subtracting decimals. Next week, we'll continue with this unit and look at how to divide and multiply decimals by integers and do problem solving activities to challenge our Y6's! Y6 are continuing with daily arithmetic and are going from strength to strength - well done, Y6!

Our new class novel is The War of the Worlds by H.G Wells. The children have really enjoyed the first chapter of this famous book and can't wait to find out what will happen next. Are the Martians here as friend or foe? In writing, we are looking at similes and metaphors and then applying these to our writing in order to plan and produce a 'horror' story. We have used the short film, Alma, as inspiration and are at the planning stage of describing an entity haunting a doll shop - spooky!

This half term we are continuing our Crime and Punishment topic. We were outdoor detectives earlier in the week when we had to look for clues that had been placed around the grounds of the school to decide if highwaymen were heros or villans. Following on from this, we will then have a class debate to decide if highwaymen were indeed heros or villans!

In outdoor learning, Y6 were identfying different footprints of animals and then played a few games of archery which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In PE, Y6 played small sided games of cricket and practised catching, bowling and batting.
