Spring 2 Week 4

In Maths, the children have been learning about mass. They have used the language of weight to describe how heavy or light different objects are. The children have developed their understanding of when to measure in grams and when to use kilograms, identifying appropriate items for each unit. They have explored both balancing scales and dial scales, applying their knowledge of number lines to read and interpret different increments. The children have also solved a variety of problems involving grams and kilograms, using all four number operations.

In Writing, the focus has been on using verbs and adverbs to describe actions more effectively. The children have applied these skills to retell the story The Magic Paintbrush in their own words. They have also been encouraged to use expanded noun phrases to add detail and description to their sentences, helping to make their writing more engaging.

In Art, the children have been learning how to mix watercolours. They explored the different shades of blue found in traditional Chinese willow patterns and practised recreating them. Starting with a strong, highly pigmented blue, they gradually added water to dilute the colour, creating a range of lighter shades.

In Geography, the children have been learning about the city of Beijing and its famous landmarks. They explored photographs and videos to understand the scale of the city and how busy it is. They then compared Beijing to rural areas of China, identifying key similarities and differences between urban and rural environments.
