Hello!
We can’t believe this is the final half-term in reception for your children. They have been so wonderful and have made such fabulous progress. We have lots of lovely things to enjoy this half-term before we break up for summer including Sports Day, a sports gala and Fun Day.
The children had a great time today doing the Fun Run. We were very impressed with their determination and amazing stamina as they ran round and round the field. Thank you for your support with sponsorship and coming along to support or run with your child.
This week we started our topic about mini-beasts. The children have absolutely loved learning about all different kinds of bugs. They have been investigating what an insect is and different parts of its body. In fact, you may like to sing this song at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxH7NBbL9JY which the children have loved singing. They might like to show you their groovy bug dancing too! We have been classifying mini-beasts and have been comparing them too. Throughout the week, the children have been finding lots of bugs in the garden. You might like to go for a hunt in your garden or local park. Look under rocks, on plants, on bark, in the soil and in the air to see which mini-beasts you can find. Can your child name the different parts of the bugs that they find? We have been using the language: head, thorax, abdomen, antennae, legs, wings, sting, shell.
In maths we have been using learning how to use rekenreks. This ink will show you more about this great resource: https://www.learningresources.co.uk/blog/what-is-a-rekenrek/?srsltid=AfmBOoq-RtjziTYYAXgPdR21WZYyEU_BpnpLRf2Xd7DkWXcrqdLcFIrj
This link has an interactive rekenrek to use at home: https://www.didax.com/apps/rekenrek/?srsltid=AfmBOorWPYINW9sh1VjTADtFrJal86EpDwuOMQHs9T87PVdTPnqfyZtI
Can your child use the language ‘one push 1, one push 2’ etc and reset their rekenrek after each move?
Next week we will be continuing our mini-beasts topic and the children will be doing craft activities and learning about how useful some mini-beasts can be. They will be finding out about mini-beasts around the world, some of which are huge!
In maths next week we will be continuing to use rekenreks and moving onto teen numbers with this resource.
Just a reminder that is the weather is sunny please make sure you have applied sun cream to your child before school and that they have a sun hat and water.
Thank you again for your continued support. Please feel free to continue to send any photos or videos of your child’s activities at home, as they really help to build a full picture of your child’s progress or experiences.
Have a lovely weekend.
